Each year a group of African American and Jewish high school juniors from throughout the City of Philadelphia are selected to participate in Operation Understanding.

New This Year!
Along with applicants from the City of Philadelphia, this year we are piloting a program to seek applicants from school districts that border the City of Philadelphia in both Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

Now accepting applications from students that live in the following school districts:

Pennsylvania
Abington, Cheltenham, Jenkintown, Lower Merion, Lower Moreland, Philadelphia,  Upper Darby Township, Southeast Delco, Springfield Township

New Jersey
Camden, Cherry Hill

Students are selected based on demonstrated leadership ability, communication skills, and the ability to work with others to promote understanding.  Every effort is made to select a diverse group of participants who represent a variety of neighborhoods, cultural/religious experiences and economic backgrounds.

The program is free to all participants, ability to pay is not a factor in the selection process.
